Andrew Park, a representative of the traffic accident and personal injury specialized law firm <Andrew Park P.C Law Office> in the New York and New Jersey area, has been famous for leading successful settlements and agreements in over ten million traffic accident cases since founding “Andrew Park Attorney’s Office” in 2003. Park majored in History at Columbia University and obtained a law degree from Syracuse University. Andrew Park, who has now positioned himself as an influential figure in the Korean community, has gained the trust of customers through his effective and clean case handling. It was heard that he is also actively involved in donations and scholarship programs.

Q: Hello. I am pleased to meet you, Lawyer. I heard that you have been showing various acts of kindness during these difficult times of Covid-19. Could you first tell us about the donation story of the <21 Hope Foundation> that took place in April?
Q. 안녕하세요. 변호사님, 인사 나눌 수 있어 반갑습니다. Covid-19 사태로 어려운 이 때, 여러 가지 좋은 나눔의 본을 보여주고 계시다 들었는데요, 최근 4월에 있었던 <21 희망 재단> 기부 이야기 먼저 들어볼 수 있을까요?
A: Hello, I am Lawyer Andrew Park. I am glad to greet you through Mom and I magazine. The <21 Hope Foundation> contacted me during the first half of this year when everyone was having a hard time due to Covid-19. The foundation is conducting a ‘Covid Recovery Campaign’ and expressed their desire to help Koreans who are facing economic difficulties due to the impact of Covid-19 and are unable to receive government benefits due to various reasons. I thought that helping individuals with incomplete documentation through the foundation would be more professional than through separate activities, and I was happy to participate as I believed it would effectively convey the purpose of the foundation to others. I hope that it has been of help to those in need and Korean families. (*Lawyer Andrew Park donated $10,000 to the 21 Hope Foundation on April 16th.)
A : 안녕하세요, 앤드류 박 변호사입니다. 이렇게 맘앤아이 지면을 통해 인사드릴 수 있어 반갑습니다. <21 희망 재단> 은 올 상반기 코로나로 모두가 어렵던 때 저에게 연락을 주셨습니다. 재단 측에서 ‘코로나 극복 캠페인’을 진행하고 있는데, 코로나로 경제적인 어려움을 겪고 있으나 신분이나 여러 가지 사정으로 정부 혜택을 못받는 한인분들을 돕고자 한다 하셨습니다. 제가 별도의 활동을 통해 하는 것보다 재단을 통해 서류 미비자 분들을 돕는 게 더 전문적이겠다 생각했고, 또 다른 분들에게도 재단의 취지를 효과적으로 알릴 수 있겠다 싶어 기쁘게 참여했습니다. 작지만 꼭 필요한 분들과 한인 가정들에 도움이 되었으면 합니다. Q: I understand that you founded the <Seol Chang Andrew Park Scholarship Foundation> in 2013 and have been consistently conducting scholarship programs. I heard that the story of the scholarship foundation and the recruitment of scholarship students for the year 2020 is somewhat special. Could you please explain?
Q. 2013년 <설창 앤드류 박 장학재단>을 세우고, 장학 사업도 꾸준히 해 오신 것으로 알고 있습니다. 장학 재단 이야기와 이번 2020년도 장학생 모집이 좀 더 특별하다고 들었는데, 설명 부탁드립니다.
A: I believe it is very important for Korean students to have the opportunity to study under the support of the Korean community and to realize their dreams in order to cultivate pride as Koreans. Our <Seolchang Scholarship Foundation> includes not only second and third-generation Korean Americans but also international students who come to study in Korea as candidates for selection. In fact, many international students become active members of the Korean American community after graduating in the United States through employment visas and the like, and even if they return to Korea, they may maintain affection for the Korean American community through the experience of receiving help from a Korean foundation, fostering future exchanges and contributions to the Korean American community. The <Seolchang Scholarship Foundation> is composed of various advisory council members in addition to myself from the Korean community, and focuses on evaluating and selecting based on contributions to the Korean American community, plans for the Korean American community, and aspirations, rather than just academic performance. We hope that they will grow without forgetting their roots and contribute to society. Since its establishment in 2013, we have selected and provided scholarships to dozens of students over the past 7 years, but especially in 2020, we have made some changes to the selection process to reflect the unique circumstances of the times. We have made it possible for students with incomplete documentation or residency status to apply for support, and this year’s essay topic is “Why do you need the Andrew Park Scholarship?” In the midst of the challenging times of Covid-19, this allows students to appeal why they need this scholarship. The purpose of selecting the 8th scholarship recipients this time is to listen to the stories of students who truly need the scholarship and to support and assist those students.
A : 평소 한인 학생들이 한인 사회의 도움 아래 공부할 기회를 갖고 자신의 꿈을 실현할 수 있는 것은 한국인으로서의 자긍심을 키우는 데 매우 중요하다고 생각했습니다. 저희 <설창 장학 재단>은 재미교포 2, 3세뿐 아닌 한국에서 공부하러 온 유학생들도 선발 대상에 포함시키고 있는데, 실제 많은 유학생들이 미국에서 졸업 후 취업 비자 등을 통해 교포 사회의 일환이 되기도 하고, 또 한국으로 돌아가더라도 한인 재단으로부터 도움 받은 경험을 통해 향후 미주 교민 사회에 애정을 갖고 교류하지 않을까 하는 기대와 바램 때문입니다. <설창 장학 재단>은 저 외에 한인 커뮤니티의 여러 자문 위원들로 구성되어 있으며, 학교 성적뿐 아닌 한인 사회에 기여한 바 또는 앞으로 한인 사회를 위한 계획 및 포부 등에 중점을 두고 검토, 선발합니다. 자신의 뿌리를 잊지 않고 성장해 기여하기를 바란다고 할까요. 2013년 설립 이래 7년간 수십 명의 장학생들을 선발해 장학금을 지급해 왔는데, 특별히 올 2020년에는 시대적인 특수성을 반영해 선발 방식을 조금 변경해 보았습니다. 체류 신분이나 서류가 조금 불충분할 수 있는 학생들도 모두 지원할 수 있게 했으며, 올해 에세이의 주제는 “왜 앤드류 박 장학금이 필요한가? (Why do you need the Andrew Park Scholarship?)”로 코로나로 한창 힘든 지금, 내게 왜 이 장학금이 필요한지 어필할 수 있게 하였습니다. 정말로 꼭 장학금이 필요한 학생들의 이야기를 듣고, 그런 친구들을 선발해 돕고자 하는 것이 이번 8회 장학생 선발의 취지입니다.
Q: After hearing your words, I am looking forward to this year’s scholarship selection even more. Is there a specific reason why you put special effort into activities such as sharing and helping those around you?
Q. 말씀을 듣고 보니 이번 장학생 선발이 더욱 기대가 되네요. 이렇게 나눔이나 주변을 돕는 일에 특별히 힘 쓰시는 이유가 있으실지요?
A: I, too, once received a scholarship from someone I did not know, and I believe that it is through the help and love of those unknown individuals that I am able to establish myself today and undertake influential work. I feel that, at some point, I must play the role of paying it forward for the grateful hands that once invested in me, and I also believe that dedicating effort to scholarship programs is a very valuable and meaningful endeavor, especially considering my family and children. I try to practice different forms of sharing whenever I have the opportunity, and I strive to concretize and implement the ideas I have. Fortunately, there are many good people who support and help me. While I play a significant role as a lawyer and the head of a law firm in society, my goal is to continue balancing and pursuing meaningful activities in other aspects of life and time.
A : 저도 한때 모르는 누군가로부터 장학금을 받았고, 내가 몰랐던 분들의 도움과 사랑으로 오늘날 이렇게 자리 잡고 또 영향력 있는 일을 할 수 있게 되었다 생각합니다. 언젠가 저에게 투자해 주신 감사한 손길에 이제는 저 역시 흘려 보내는 역할을 해야 한다 생각하고, 또한 가족과 아이들이 있는 만큼 장학 사업에 힘쓰는 것은 매우 가치 있고 의미 있는 일이라 생각하고요. 그 외 다른 방식의 나눔에 대해서는 기회가 될 때마다 실천하고, 또 가지고 있는 아이디어들은 실행을 구체화하려 하고 있습니다. 다행히 함께 해 주고 도와주는 좋은 분들이 많이 계십니다. 사회에서는 변호사이자 로펌의 대표로 주요한 역할을 하고 있지만, 그 외의 시간과 인생에서는 가치 있는 일을 지속적으로 병행해 가는 것이 목표입니다.
Q: Lastly, please share a few words. invested in me, and I also believe that dedicating effort to scholarship programs is a very valuable and meaningful endeavor, especially considering my family and children. A: I believe that many people have experienced difficult times during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our law firm has also been affected in various ways, and there have been many changes, such as remote work. However, as a result, it has been a time where we could realize and feel the preciousness and gratitude of our close families. I hope that during challenging times, we can become a warm society where we cherish and love each other like family, supporting and approaching each other with care. Thank you.

Seolchang Andrew Park 8th Scholarship Recipient Recruitment Guidelines
Andrew Park, the director of the Seolchang Scholarship Foundation, has announced the guidelines for the 2020 scholarship student recruitment. This year’s scholarship recruitment aims to help students facing economic difficulties due to Covid-19, including those with incomplete documentation, and has simplified the document submission process compared to previous years.
– Scholarship Award Amount: Total of $24,000 ($3,000 each for the selected 8 recipients)
– Scholarship Application Period: June 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020
– Announcement of Scholarship Recipients: Individual notification and announcement via print media
– Required Documents:
1. Copy of academic performance and proof of enrollment for the past year
2. One copy of college acceptance letter (applicable to students enrolling in the Fall 2020 semester)
