Seolchang & Andrew Park Foundation will hold a chamber music concert on December 9th (Saturday) at 7:30 PM at Merkin Hall (129 West 67th Street, Manhattan, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue), sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center in New York. As part of the diverse concert series commemorating the foundation’s 10th anniversary, New York musicians invited from the Chuncheon Festival will present new and beloved major works from the repertoire of John Adams, Caroline Shaw, Nathan Schram, Maurice Ravel, and Amy Beach.
설창앤드류 박 재단은 뉴욕 한국문화원 후원으로 내달12월 9일 (토)오후 7시 30분 머킨 홀(129 West 67th Street, Manhattan, 브로드웨이와 암스테르담 애비뉴 사이)에서 실내악 콘서트를 연다. 재단 창립 10주년을 기념하는 다양한 콘서트에서는 뉴욕의 음악가들을 춘천 페스티벌에 초청해 John Adams, Caroline Shaw, Nathan Schram, Maurice Ravel 및 Amy Beach 레퍼토리의 새롭고 사랑받는 주요 작품을 선보일 예정이다.
The New York Chuncheon Festival is an chamber music festival founded by violinist Woo Yeju in 2013. Held annually in Chuncheon, South Korea, the festival invites musicians from New York and presents world-class chamber music concerts and introduces contemporary art. It also inspires young music students through masterclasses.
뉴욕 춘천 페스티벌은 바이올리니스트 우예주가 2013년 창단한 실내악 페스티벌이다. 매년 대한민국 춘천에서 개최되는 실내악 페스티벌로, 뉴욕 출신 음악가들을 초청해 세계적 수준의 실내악 연주회를 선보이고, 현대미술을 소개한다. 마스터클래스를 통해 젊은 음악 학생들에게 영감을 주고 있다.
The New York Chuncheon members consist of Grammy Award-winning Attacca Quartet, Brooklyn Rider, International Contemporary Ensemble, A Far Cry, and Sybarite5. The performers include violinist and artistic director Woo Yeju, violinists Katie Hyun and Sami Merdinian, violist Nathan Schram, cellists Celia Hatton and Michael Davis, cellists Michael Nicolas and Mihai Marica, and pianists Jun Cho and Carlos Avila. All of them received the honorary ambassador commendation from Chuncheon for their cultural contributions to the city in 2016.
뉴욕 춘천 멤버는 그래미상을 수상한 Attacca Quartet, Brooklyn Rider, International Contemporary Ensemble, A Far Cry 및 Sybarite5의 연주자로 구성된다. 출연자는바이올리니스트이자 예술 감독인 우예주, 바이올리니스트 Katie Hyun과 Sami Merdinian,비올리스트 Nathan Schram, Celia Hatton 및 Michael Davis,첼리스트 Michael Nicolas와 Mihai Marica,피아니스트 Jun Cho과 Carlos Avila로,이들은 모두 2016년 춘천시에 문화공헌을 한 공로로 춘천시 명예홍보대사 표창을 받았다.
Woo Yeju, the director and founder of NYinCC, said, “I am delighted to celebrate the foundation’s 10 years of dedication, friendship, and music production with friends and family in New York. In particular, I look forward to continuing our dedication to contemporary music by premiering a new work by Nathan Schram, who is both a violist and a composer.”
Andrew Park, the chairman of the scholarship foundation, said, “This event is appropriate for inviting these musicians to a meaningful event, as they have shown deep interest in Korean culture and have made cultural and educational contributions not only to Chuncheon but also to Korea, in celebration of the foundation’s 10th anniversary.”
NYinCC의 설립자인 우예주 감독은 “뉴욕에서 친구 및 가족과 함께 헌신, 우정, 음악 제작의 재단의10년의 역사를 기념할 수 있는 콘서트로 기념하게 되어 기쁘게 생각하고, 특히 비올리스트이자 작곡가인 Nathan Schram의 새로운 작품을 초연함으로써 현대 음악에 대한 우리의 헌신을 이어나가기를 기대하고 있다”고 말했다.
또한, 장학재단의 이사장인 앤드류박 변호사는 “이번행사는 재단의 10주년을 맞이해서 한국 문화에 깊은 관심을 갖고 이들 음악가들이 춘천시뿐만 아니라 한국에 바친 문화적, 교육적 공헌을 인정하여, 의미 있는 행사에 이러한 음악가들을 초대하는 것이 적절하다고 생각했다”고 했다.
